A Special "Key to the City" Presentation for Barbara Willm

Lexington Medical Center Vice President of Development and Community Relations Barbara Willm has received a special honor from the Town of Irmo.

Irmo Town Council members and Mayor Barry Walker presented Barbara with a “Key to the City” at the council’s meeting on November 17. Barbara’s son Rob accepted the accolade on his mother’s behalf.

The honor recognizes Barbara’s long and dedicated service to the residents of Irmo. She began her career in the Lexington Medical Center network of care 34 years ago as an operating room manager at Lexington Medical Center Irmo.

Barbara helped open all of Lexington Medical Center’s six original community medical centers, and played a vital leadership role in each of those communities across Lexington County.  Extremely active throughout the Midlands philanthropic and business community, she’s recognized as an advocate for the underserved. 

Barbara currently serves as Chairman of The Free Medical Clinic Board and also serves on the Lexington County Economic Development Board. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.  

Barbara is a past chairman of the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce Board and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce Board.  She is also past chairman of the Leadership Lexington County Board and Saluda Shoals Foundation Board.  

Barbara is also a past board member of the United Way of the Midlands, chairing their Community Impact Committee and previously served on the board of Transitions Homeless Recovery Center.

Barbara was awarded the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year award in 2005. She received the SC Girl Scouts Mountains to Midlands Women of Distinction Award in 2013.  She was named a Komen Champion by the Susan G. Komen organization in 2016 for her work with breast cancer. 

Barbara was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cayce West Columbia Chamber of Commerce in 2019.  In February 2020 she received the Mike Till Community Impact Award from the Lexington Chamber of Commerce.  In March of 2020 Barbara was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce.

Congratulations to Barbara on her latest honor. It’s well deserved.
