Nurse Still Working in Her Eighties

Fannie Ward interviewed at Lexington Medical Center

Aug. 10 2021

Fannie Ward has worked as a nurse for more than 50 years. Now in her eighties, Fannie sat down with WIS to talk about how her work at Lexington Medical Center work keeps her young at heart.

Fannie works at LMC Lexington's surgery center, helping patients prepare for surgery. She quips that caring for patients and continuing to learn new tasks, like entering information into the electronic medical record, is far more rewarding than sitting at home watching television.

Feneisha Franklin, MD, with Internal Medicine Associates Lexington says older workers add value to the workplace and can be strong mentors to younger workers. She encourages older adults to work as long as it they find it enjoyable and rewarding.
