ER Physician's COVID Vaccine Decision

Dr. Liu getting vaccine

Mar. 22 2021

Lexington Medical Center emergency physician Xinwei Liu, MD, and an emergency room nurse from another local hospital recently sat down with WIS' Sam Bleiweis to discuss their experience with the COVID-19 vaccine.

Both have been on the front lines caring for COVID-19 patients for the past year - an experience Dr. Liu describes as "disheartening." Both also contracted COVID-19 themselves.

When they had the opportunity to receive the vaccine, both were eager to get the shot and to share their stories. Dr. Liu says "Having a vaccine available to all of us is a scientific marvel." Other than a bit of a sore arm, neither had much reaction to the vaccine.

They want everyone to know that having mild symptoms from the vaccine is not considered an adverse reaction. It's simply your body mounting a response so it can fight off the virus if you're exposed, so it's actually a good thing.

They hope everyone chooses to get vaccinated to help curb the spread of the virus and help us all return to normal activities.
