This week marked an important milestone for WIS-TV and Mungo Homes' partnership called "Community Builder." This project honors community members who is going above and beyond to help others. WIS-TV profiles them in a story and Mungo Homes gives each winner a $1,000 gift for the charity of their choice. To date, there have now been 100 "Community Builder" honorees.
The first one was Lexington Medical Center ER doctor Todd Crump. In assistant to working as the assistant medical director in our Emergency department, he also volunteers as the Medical Director at the Free Medical Clinic in Columbia, selflessly giving dozens of hours each week to help people who are underserved or uninsured receive important medical care.
WIS-TV caught up with Dr. Crump this week in a look back at "Community Builder." Here's the story.
Dr. Crump is not the only person with connections to Lexington Medical Center who has been honored as a "Community Builder."
In 2016, the project honored Cynthia Byrd, who works at our community medical center in Irmo. Byrd lost her son in a tragic car accident. Each year, she organizes and holds a fashion show with proceeds going to a scholarship fund in her son's honor.
And, late last year, "Community Builder" celebrated Hubert Smoake - who restores medical equipment to give to people in need. His services have enhanced the quality of life of dozens of people across the Midlands.

Congratulations to all of the Community Builders!
