The Benefits of Total Hip Replacement

Hip pain can decrease quality of life significantly. In this WLTX interview, Dr. Randy Beard of Lexington Orthopaedics, a Lexington Medical Center physician practice, talks about total hip replacement surgery and how it helps patients return to their normal routine.

Notes from the Doctor:

~The most common problem Dr. Beard sees is arthritis in the hips, as cartilage in the hip joint wears out over time, either with age or from trauma.
~At first, physical therapy, injections and weight loss may help.
~Another option is total hip replacement.
~Anterior hip replacement can be used for a younger patient who wants to be back to work, school or sports faster.
