In addition to the Northeast Columbia location, Sandhills Women’s Care also has an office in West Columbia inside Lexington Medical Park 1 on the hospital campus.

3-D mammography, also known as digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), is recommended for women who are having their first screening mammogram or those who have dense breast tissue. The Sandhills Women’s Care office in Northeast Columbia is the second location in Lexington Medical Center’s network of care to offer this state-of-the-art technology. DEXA scans use X-rays to show the strength of bones. In general, the denser the bone, the stronger it is, and the less likely it is to break or fracture. The practice also offers 3D/4D ultrasounds.

The providers at Sandhills Women’s Care are Douglas M. Addy, MD; Jully A.F. Aguirre, MD; Thomas C. Austin, MD; Crystal Y. Johnson, MD; and Jennifer B. Linfert, MD. Dr. Aguirre and Dr. Linfert joined the practice recently.

amberg_160107_078“We are extremely excited to not only have this beautiful new facility, but to continue welcoming Dr. Jully Aguirre and Dr. Jennifer Linfert into our practice. We think the ability to do mammograms and bone density scans will be an enormous benefit and convenience to any patient who lives in Northeast Columbia,” said Dr. Addy.

The new Northeast Columbia location of Sandhills Women’s Care provides patients with quality services close to their homes or jobs. And the practice is large enough to continue to meet the health care needs of the community as it grows. With five board-certified physicians, Sandhills Women’s Care offers patients of all ages a full range of obstetric and gynecologic services — from routine well care to specialized diagnostics.

#JustSayKnow with High Intensity Interval Training

High Intensity Interval Training (known as HIIT) can boost your heart health. Rich Maddox, personal trainer at Health Directions, Lexington Medical Center’s health and wellness gym, talked about it on WIS-TV with Judi Gatson this week. And, Lyn Pernell, personal trainer with Health Directions, demonstrated the exercises. Check it out!

These exercises help to work the heart muscle and make it stronger. It also helps to improve blood flow through the veins and arteries, decreasing your risk of heart disease.

These are intense exercises for a short period of time with a short period of rest. The workout takes 10 to 30 minutes, depending on your fitness level. Exercises can include cycling, swimming, running and more.
