Hoops and Hope with Dawn Staley

We’re less than a week away from “Hoops and Hope with Dawn Staley,” an event benefitting the Lexington Medical Center Foundation.

Olympic gold medalist and nationally acclaimed University of South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley will be the keynote speaker on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a sponsor reception and a Fund Fair, showcasing the programs and services the Lexington Medical Center Foundation provides in our community. The dinner and program is at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. Sponsorships are also available.

Staley_RetouchedA three-time Olympic gold medalist, Staley has been the University of South Carolina women’s basketball head coach since 2008. Under her leadership, the Gamecocks have achieved honors including a first-ever #1 national ranking and an NCAA Final Four appearance in 2015. Staley has also tripled the number of fans attending women’s basketball games at the university.

Staley is one of the most decorated participants in United States women’s basketball history. She has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and recognized by the WNBA as one of the Top 15 influential players in league history. As a college player in the 1990’s, Staley was a standout at the University of Virginia. She was also a member of three United States Olympics teams, earning gold medals in 1996, 2000 and 2004. Her professional playing experience includes the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting and Houston Comets, where she earned accolades for her skills, sportsmanship and leadership.

Barbara Willm, Vice President of Community Relations and Development at Lexington Medical Center, talked bout the event and the Foundation on WIS-TV with news anchor Judi Gatson, who will emcee the event.

In Columbia, Staley encourages her teams to pursue community service opportunities, and also founded Innersole, which aims to provide new sneakers to children who are homeless and children in need.

The Lexington Medical Center Foundation fills important community needs by supporting a variety of hospital and community programs including a cancer care fund, a boutique for breast cancer patients, nursing scholarships, LMC’s doula program, an outdoor garden at Carroll Campbell Place, health care internships, a mobile medical unit, pastoral care and prescription assistance.

Prenatal Puzzlers with Dr. Jaime Brown Price

Dr. Jaime Brown Price, our new physician with Lexington Women’s Care, discusses the do’s and don’ts during pregnancy in a new mini series called Prenatal Puzzlers. In this webisode she talks about the importance of a preconception visit.

Dr. Brown Price enjoys serving women in our community and providing compassionate care. “One of the most exciting aspects of obstetrics and gynecology is that I am able to establish life long relationships with my patients as I care for them from their teenage years through childbirth and menopause.” She said.

A Lexington native, Dr. Brown Price graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina Honors College. She received her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed an OB/GYN residency at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.
