Shining Bright in LMC Gold

Congratulations to the 10 outstanding nurses selected as LMC Gold recipients this year. Since 2006, LMC Gold has honored nurses within Lexington Medical Center’s network of care for their commitment to patients and the nursing profession. Nominated by their peers, these nurses display excellence in practice and leadership, participate in professional organizations and development, and contribute to the advancement of nursing, as well as provide patients with the best possible care. LMC Gold nurses received their awards at a special recognition dinner at the Capital City Club this week.

Shining Bright in Palmetto Gold

Three Lexington Medical Center nurses have received the prestigious Palmetto Gold award this year. Benjamin Amberg, Kay Austin and Frances Faulkner were among 100 nurses from across South Carolina recognized for excellence and commitment to the nursing profession.

The South Carolina Nurses Foundation presented the Palmetto Gold awards at a gala banquet in May. Employers throughout South Carolina nominate nurses for Palmetto Gold. Nominees must meet four criteria:
• Promotes and advances the profession of nursing in a positive way in the practice setting or in the community;
• Displays exceptional caring and commitment to patients, families, student nurses and colleagues;
• Demonstrates leadership and assists others in growth and development;
• Promotes the profession of nursing and contributes to the advancement of nursing through civic, community and/or professional association activities.

Benjamin Amberg, BSN, RN, CEN, is a nurse in Lexington Medical Center’s Emergency department. He has helped to establish goals to move patients through the treatment process in the ER in a timely manner. He also provides orientation for new nurses in his department.

Kay Austin, BSN, MHA, RN, NE-BC, is a nurse in the Progressive Cardiac Unit. She advocates for patients at the bedside, spends time volunteering and assists those in need. She has taught basic life support education and automatic external defibrillator training.

Frances Falkner, ADN, RN, CNOR, has been a nursing leader for more than 35 years, supporting programs, initiatives and employees. As a patient advocate, her efforts to enhance patient experience have resulted in patient satisfaction scores consistently in the top 5 percent of the nation and implementation of successful patient safety initiatives.
