Santa’s Workshop

Lexington Medical Center has its own Santa’s Workshop in place this week as it works to provide Christmas presents for 60 families in need throughout our community. The hospital’s social workers identified families they have worked with throughout the year to receive the gifts, which are generously donated by Lexington Medical Center employees.

Lexington Medical Center departments and staff members “adopted” 35 families and asked for a wish list from each of them. After reviewing the lists, the employees purchased toys, clothes, bikes, electronics, food items, gift cards and more. Families will pick up the items this week. MSW students from the University of South Carolina are the “elves” in the workshop as families arrive.

“Lexington Medical Center is delighted and excited to help these community members,” said Sara Sims, community social worker at Lexington Medical Center. “The generosity of hospital employees is overwhelming.”

In addition, hospital social workers have selected 25 elderly residents in the Midlands to receive Christmas baskets filled with items including socks, candy, hot chocolate, snacks, coffee, tea and puzzle books. Lexington Medical Center employees have made donations to purchase the items. Community social workers will arrange and deliver the baskets later this week.

This is the 12th year that Lexington Medical Center has had its own adopt-a-family program. The hospital enjoys extending its work beyond the hospital to enhance the well being of our community.
