LMC to Break Ground on Lexington Medical Park – Congaree in Cayce, SC

Lexington Medical Center will host a groundbreaking ceremony for Lexington Medical Park – Congaree, a new medical office complex located in Otarre Pointe, across the street from the SCANA corporate campus on the 12th Street Extension in Cayce.   Lexington Medical Park – Congaree will be the latest neighbor in the area, a growing corridor of economic potential and business development that includes SCANA, Amazon.com, Nephron Pharmaceuticals and the Saxe Gotha Industrial Park.

Lexington Medical Center will break ground on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

The two-story, 70,000 square foot facility will offer services for company and employee needs. There will be a Lexington Family Practice office, where patients can see a doctor, then return to work.  As needed, there will be X-Ray and lab capabilities as well as other programs. Importantly, employees of the companies surrounding the new facility will be able to go there for pre-employment physicals.

“Lexington Medical Center looks forward to the completion of the new facility as it will allow us to build upon the partnerships we already have with local businesses and their employees,” said Mike Biediger, President & CEO of Lexington Medical Center.

Lexington Medical Park – Congaree is expected to employ 64 full-time employees. The project also plans to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, employing advanced technology to conserve resources.

SCANA, with its headquarters recently re-located to the area, is working with the hospital to maintain as much of the natural land around the new clinic as possible, from preserving trees to minimizing asphalt. Lexington Medical Center is dedicated to preserving the rich historical and cultural significance of the Congaree area.

This expansion marks an exciting endeavor for Lexington Medical Center, as the 12th Street Extension near Interstate 77 is quickly developing into an important commercial corridor.  The area is conveniently situated near industrial markets throughout the Southeast. The area is also equipped with important infrastructure including the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, sewer and water systems, electrical and natural gas lines and a rail line.

Lexington Medical Center currently operates an occupational health facility in West Columbia, serving more than 300 businesses.  The West Columbia location will move to Lexington Medical Park – Congaree.

The architecture firm of Perkins + Will designed the building.  Hood Construction will build it.  Landscape architects from Sustainable Design Consultants, Inc. will provide landscaping.
